Getting It Off My Chest

Thank You for the Rights of Little Girls  

To the Special Forces who sacrifice their safety, and often, their lives,
to defeat the Taliban,
I say thank you on behalf of the little girls of Afghanistan,
as well as the future of my own little nieces.

Thank you for defending the rights of little girls to be educated,
to read, to write, to participate in, and to contribute to the knowledge of our world.

Thank you for defending my right to photograph their smiling cherubic faces,
so that their smiles can be shared with all who love them.

Thank you for defending them from being forced to wear the burka,
so that the only veil they will ever wear, if they chose to do so,
will be worn on their wedding day.
