Along
the Squirrel Trail
The baby
squirrels have left their nest
To run and chase along the trail.
They do not even stop to rest.
They chase their older brother’s tail!
They roll and tumble in a ball
While Mama warns
“Look out! Don’t fall!”
When they are scared they sit quite still
While Mom calls out with her shrill
Call to warn to hide and cover
Until the passing danger is over.
Is it a hawk, a dog, a cat?
Or a bigger animal than that
To snatch a squirrel for it’s lunch
And leave one less baby in the bunch?
Be safe little squirrel
And stay close to Mom!
Come eat an acorn
Here in the sun!
