Indian Summer
Welcome Indian Summer
with off shore flow bringing air so still,
the only breeze comes from the fluttering wings of birds!
The doves lay a clutch of eggs for the fall,
carefully adding millet sprays to their nests,
while scolding intruders who venture too close.
Vibrant begonias display their final burst of color for the year.
The lone remaining sweet pea offers up its last blossom.
Chrysanthemums bloom to brighten the fading garden.
We bask in the sunshine,
savoring the warm days before the daylight hours shorten,
and the winter rains set in.
