Queens of America!
One of my girlfriends and I are lamenting over the trials and tribulations of our divorces and the many additional obstacles we have had to overcome, including the losses of our homes, employment and health.
Sometimes the challenges feel overwhelming. Yet, we remind ourselves to put things in perspective, and to compare ourselves to other women in the world, not the “reality” wives of this city or that shown on Bravo, but to real women, with whom we share this planet, and how our divorced and unemployed lives are still better than others.
We are the real women of American small towns and big cities; we're the survivors and thrivers!
“Rachel” I remind her, “we live like queens! We still have a roof over our heads and a car in the garage.”
We live like queens because we have toilets that flush, and hot and cold running water at our fingertips.
We have cars that we drive to the store to buy our food.
We live like queens because we don't have to keep our heads covered and wear some hideous burqa, when the weather is hot, humid and summer temperatures exceed 100 degrees! We can wear sleeveless blouses and Capri pants if we want to!
We have access to contraception, and not just one type but to a variety, and we can’t be imprisoned for using it.
We can enroll in school if we want to. We can read any book we want.
We can “Google” nearly anything, anytime and anywhere about any subject.
We can vote, even if we aren't happy with the choices to vote for, it's still our right to do so.
Therefore, in spite of ex bosses, and ex-husbands...we live like queens!!!!
Happy Independence Day because we really are independent!
